Cutting Instructions: Use a good mix of background fabrics for a pleasing look.
NOTE: Pattern refers to Blue fabrics (Light and Dark) however this could be any colour based on your choice.
Background:
(4) 3" squares - draw a diagonal line on wrong side
(4) 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
(4) 1 1/2" x 2 1/2"
(2) 1 1/2" x 4"
Light Blue
(4) 3" squares
(4) 2 1/2" squares
Dark Blue
(2) 1 1/2" x 4"
(1) 1 1/2" square
Sewing Instructions:
Make Half Square Triangles (HST) by placing (1) Background square on top of (1) Light Blue square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" on each side of drawn line. Cut apart on line, and press to blue. Square up to 2 1/2". Make (8).

Sew (1) 1 1/2" x 4" Background strip to (1) 1 1/2" x 4" Dark Blue strip lengthwise. Subcut into (4) 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" units as shown. Make 4.
Sew above unit to (1) 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle, as shown. Make 2 and square up to 2 1/2" if needed. Repeat process, but note colour placement.

Sew the following units together. Make 2 each. Square up to 4 1/2", if needed.
Assemble your block as shown:
Your block should measure 9 1/2" unfinished. Check back in April for next block.
Optional Border Star Block #2:
Cutting Instructions:
Background:
(4) 3 1/2" squares.
(2) 4 1/4" squares - draw diagonal line on wrong side.
Light Blue:
(2) 2" squares.
Medium/Dark Blue:
(2) 4 1/4" squares
(2) 2" squares
Sewing Instructions:
Make a 4-patch using (2) 2" Light Blue and (2) 2" Medium/Dark Blue squares, as shown:
Make 1. Your block should measure 3 1/2".
Make Quarter Square Triangles (QST) by placing (1) 4 1/4" Background square on top of (1) 4 1/4" Med/Dark Blue square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" on each side of line. Cut apart on line, and press to Blue. No need to square up yet.
Next, place one HST on top of another HST, right sides together, and seams in opposite directions. Sew 1/4" on each side of drawn line. Cut apart on line, and press to Blue. Square up to 3 1/2". Make 4
Assemble your block as shown. Make 5. Your block should measure 9 1/2" unfinished.
